This note is part of the original 1954 issue, commonly known as the “Devil’s Face” series. In this early design, a shadowy pattern in Queen Elizabeth II’s hair appeared to resemble a devil’s face, which led to public concern and the eventual redesign of the portrait. These early “Devil’s Face” notes were withdrawn and replaced, making them much scarcer and more sought-after by collectors.
